Chattanooga, TN – The Lookout Mountain Incline – Part 10

During Spring Break 2019, we traveled down to Chattanooga. While there, we enjoyed the scenic views of Lookout Mountain. We also visited Ruby Falls, the Tennessee Aquarium, and the Chattanooga Zoo. We also looked for ghosts and ghouls on a ghost tour. Enjoy our spring break/ 20th wedding anniversary trip.

After we were done at Rock City, we traveled to the Lookout Mountain Incline. Most people ride the incline from the bottom of the mountain to the top and then back to the bottom. We decided to do the opposite.

The Incline’s claim to fame is the fact that it is the steepest incline. When you are at the top of the incline going down, it’s an almost straight down ride.

The whole track is about a mile long. The views from the top are spectacular.

Watching the car come up the hill. What they do is one car will depart from the top at the same time the other car will depart from the bottom. They’ll meet somewhere in the middle of the track which is the widest part of the track. The car has steps you have to go down if you want to sit in the front. The roof is windows so you truly get a panoramic view of the area.

The blurry photo is of the car traveling up the hill as it was passing us.

At the bottom of the hill – This area of Chattanooga is known as St. Elmo.

This cool structure shows the history of the Chattanooga area. I wish I could have gotten more close ups of the the figures on this sculpture.

I found a sign saying the Georgia State Line was a straight ahead. I decided to try to walk to the state line. Needless to say, it was further away then I thought so I never got there. Hubby thought I was nuts for trying to walk to the state line.

Mojo Burrito – I decided to try this local place. I got a fish taco which was delicious!

The ride back up the mountain on the Incline. We had to wait about 20 or so minutes in line before we were able to get on the Incline.

After we visited Point Park, we drove down the Scenic Byway down the Mountain. We stopped half way to find a geocache. One of the coolest experiences was actually driving below the incline track into one of the neighborhoods.

Join me next time for our visit to Point Park.

Stay kind!

Have a magical day,
