All I wanted to do was sleep but I did not have a pillow. Plus my right arm was hooked up to an IV. My left arm was hooked up to a heart monitor that checked my blood pressure periodically.
Last Wednesday, I woke up with a gut retching stomach ache. The Wee One and the Imaginative One just had a stomach virus so I thought that was the reason for the stomach ache.
I called off of work that day. Then I get a message that I need to send lesson plans for the day if they get me a sub. They rarely get me a sub since I am an Intervention Specialist and not a classroom teacher.
All I wanted to do was sleep instead of revising my schedule so I can send it to them.
Finally all humans were out of the house and my revised schedule was sent to the building secretary. I was able to sleep so I crashed for almost 2 hours. Sleep glorious sleep.
I continued to not feel well for the next couple of days. On Thursday I attempted to go to work. That lasted an hour or so before I was on my way home.
I could have gone in on Friday but I still did not feel good so I decided to stay home.
On Saturday, Mom and I battled the holiday traffic so I could start / finish my Christmas shopping. The Wee One finally told me what he wanted for Christmas. Hubby asked for polo shirts because he is now subbing. I’m wondering why they waited until December 1st to tell me what they wanted for Christmas.
While I was shopping, I still didn’t feel good but I pushed through the pain and got it done.
On Sunday, I was in a LOT of pain. I cried during the church service because it was hard for me sit in those chairs.
Finally we decided to go to the ER to make sure it was not anything serious.
We arrived at the right time because I was in a room within 10 minutes after arriving to the ER. When we left, there was a back up of people that needed to be seen. One of Hubby’s friends was also in the ER. When we left, we saw her laying on a bed across from the nurses’ station because they ran out of rooms to put her.
Hubby left me to go get some supper because it was that time in the evening.
They got me hooked up to an IV and blood pressure machine immediately. Blood was drawn while they were hooking me up to the IV.
The nurses decided I needed a CAT scan to see if there was something serious going on. Hubby was not back from his journey to find food to eat so I was ALL alone in room 2 of the ER.
The nurses and the x ray tech were great and very personable so it made the experience less scary.
Finally Hubby came back to my room. At that point, we were playing the waiting game to find out why I was in a pain.
While were waiting, all I wanted to do was sleep. Hubby wanted to watch TV. I nixed him watching Family Guy. Finally he found the Carol Burnett special on TV.
My IV bag was running out of liquid so we called the nurses’ station because we were tired of playing the waiting game.
It was so anti-climatic when they told me that it was probably a stomach virus that was causing me so much pain.
I was also low in potassium and dehydrated.
We left the ER at 10 pm. I was in bed by 10:30 and asleep by 11 pm.
Finally I was asleep. I slept solidly for the next 7 hours.
P.S. I went back to work and am spending my evenings sleeping when I have time. Between choir performances, Kung Fu, and Boy Scouts on Monday and Tuesday, it was difficult to find time to sleep.

Have a magical day,
Traci
I’m so glad it wasn’t more serious, although the stomach bug can be super painful and uncomfortable. Thank goodness you didn’t go to work and expose more people. I bet the IV and treatment at the hospital gave your body a little kick in the right direction…and of course SLEEEEEP! Get all the sleep!
Ugh, what a pain – literally. Hope you’re feeling better!
