As I was organizing my posts from this site, I realized I never finished writing about our Super Trip in 2013. The Super Trip took place almost 6 years ago when the boys were 8 and 10. Now they are almost 14 and 16. Oops!
When I left off, I got as far as Georgia Aquarium but not Zoo Atlanta and Huntsville, Alabama.
We had a very restless night. The boys had this tiny pull out chair to share. All night long, we heard city noises and the constant driving over the metal coverings on the road. Hubby and I keep talking about that night even to this day.
Our first task of the day was going to find some breakfast. We were going to go to Chick Fil-A but then remembered it was Sunday. So we had some Dunkin’ Donuts instead.
Here’s some photos of our walk around Atlanta looking for breakfast.
Once we got to the park where the Zoo is located, I noticed there was a farmer’s market. Hubby took the Youngest on into the zoo while the Oldest and I perused the farmer’s market. I found some delicious strawberry basil yogurt that I still wish I could have some today.
Once we got into the zoo, we needed to find the Youngest and Hubby. Once we found them, we realized they had not used our Columbus Zoo pass to get a discounted rate. So, Hubby had to take care of that before we could continue on with the zoo.
One of our reasons for going to the zoo in Atlanta is to see the panda. There are only a select few zoos in North America that have pandas. I’ve been 2 of those zoos – ZooAtlanta and the Toronto Zoo.
One of our favorite things about the zoo was the opportunities for the boys to interact with some of the animals. This young lady was standing around with this snake allowing guests to pet it. You better believe the boys were all about that.

Some of the birds
The bird show

African animals – There is a LOT of clay in the soil so the ground was reddish. It was unusual to see elephants with a red tinge to them.

As you can see, the gorillas were out and about while we were there. They really enjoyed that little hammock thing.

We got to watch the gorilla training which was interesting.
We really enjoyed the naked mole rats. I can remember making references to Kim Possible while we were looking at them.

Reptile House

We loved the orangutans.

We watched the bird show for a second time.

We checked out the flamingos before heading to our next destination.
When we left Atlanta, we traveled to a state I had never been to before which was Alabama. We went to Huntsville to see the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.

Stay kind!
