• It’s that time of week again.  It’s time for the menu for the week.

Last week after I made the menu, we had some difficulties with the dinners.  The meat I got from the grocery store expired much too quickly.  I had to get new meat in the middle of the week.

I decided to change up how I did dinners this week.  I made freezer packs.  Each night, I’ll get the next days’s meal out of the freezer to allow it to defrost.  The majority of our meals this week are going to be cooked in the slow cooker.  One is going to be cooked on the indoor grill.

Next week, I’ll have the menu for the next two weeks.  I’m going to be going away during Labor Day weekend.

Instead of assigning days to the meals I’m just going to list the meals:

Baby Back Ribs with Corn on the Cob and Roasted Potatoes

BBQ Shredded Chicken (Sloppy Chicken), Potato Chips, Veggies

    Chicken Taco Soup

Orange Ginger Shredded Beef, Rice, Steamed Broccoli

    Mediterranean Grilled Chicken, Quinoa, Peas

    20170821065011_IMG_0846.jpg

Lunch for this week:  Greek salad, Olive Hummus and Gluten Free Rosemary Crackers, Applesauce with Cinnamon, Hard Salami

20170821065419_IMG_0847.jpgBreakfast/ Snack for this week:  Yogurt with granola, oranges, Mixed Nuts

In other news, did you see the eclipse?  I only got to see it for a couple minutes.  When I got to see it a second time, it was so cloudy so I was fortunate to actually get to see it.  I’m in Dayton, Ohio which will be in the path of totality in 2024.

  • As many of you know, I have a monarch butterfly tattoo on my left shoulder.  The top of the tattoo has purple dots because that was my sister’s favorite color.  One top wing has 2 dots which represents the fact there were 2 of us and she was 2 years younger than me.  The other wing has 4 dots which represents the fact that her birthday was on September 4th.  Our birthdays were also 4 months apart.  I was actually 2 years 4 months older than her.

Why did I get a Monarch butterfly on my shoulder?  One year ago on August 28th, Tanya left her Earthly body for her Heavenly body.  Every since her death, I’ve seen Monarch butterflies when I’ve needed her.

Today’s post is going to list the special times I’ve seen a Monarch butterfly since August 28th, 2016.

August 30th – We were cleaning out her apartment.  I was sitting in my car when a Monarch flew by me.

September 2nd – Right after her funeral, a Monarch flew by my aunt and myself.

September 5th – I was waiting at Young’s Dairy for my family from Pittsburgh.  A Monarch flew by me.

Sometime in September – During dismissal duty, another Monarch flew by me and up into the sky.

Last weekend in October  – Hubby and I were visiting Louisville to give me time away from all of the pressure I was feeling.  It was the 2nd month anniversary of her death.  There were a lot of Monarchs flying around purple flowers.

Thanksgiving – This one was truly when I realized it was her.  I cried tears in the bathtub in Cabana Bay Beach Resort because I was missing her.  Later that day, I was at the entrance of Animal Kingdom.  I saw a Monarch butterfly.  Then at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, I saw another one by giraffes.  She knew I love Disney and giraffes.

August 5th – I finally visited her grave.  Later that day, she visited me when I was working at a tent for DeMolay and Rainbow.  We are both majority members.

August 20th (Today) – I was missing her.  I went to talk to the Imaginative One who was outside.  Suddenly a Monarch was flying around the yard.  When she came to visit me, she would sit outside on our little patio.

Also in June – I was walking on the beach on the 10th month anniversary of her death.  Suddenly I felt a tap on my shoulder.  No one was there.  I know it was her telling me “Traci, I’m here with you.  I’m walking through life with you.”

Even though I know she is still with me, I still miss her.  I often have the urge to call her because I want to talk to her.  No one will ever understand the feeling of emptiness that I feel.

During the next week, I’m going to be sharing my feelings as the year anniversary of her death approaches.

Here’s the schedule for this coming week:

  • 1. Throwback Thursday: Choose a photo from August 10 years ago and write a poem or a blog post.

I went on a mission this week to find photos from August 2007.  I finally found them tonight!

10 years ago, the boys were 2 and 4 and as cute as can be.

    The Imaginative One started preschool.

I moved school buildings once again.

Now to the photos I’ve chosen from August 2007.

    100_0175

This is the Wee One dressed as Goliath from the Playhouse Disney’s show Jo Jo’s Circus.

The Imaginative One was obsessed with the show.  I bought him this Halloween costume one year.  It was on sale so it was cheap.  Both boys wore it non stop for years.  Best money spent.

    100_0500

The boys were outside underneath our maple tree.  The Wee One was eating a yogurt and apple.  I love his eyes in this photo.

    100_0367

We went to Krispy Kreme for donuts and to watch the donuts being made.  I think they were excited to eat some delicious treats.

The Imaginative One no longer believes in smiling so it’s great to find a photo of him smiling.

    100_0536

This is the Wee One’s first day of preschool.  He was at the preschool for two years.  Now he is getting ready to go to 8th grade which is crazy.

    100_0059

That’s not how you play corn hole, the Wee One.

    100_0100

Playing in the park.  The Wee One has lost one of his sandals.  This is nothing new because he still loses shoes ALL the time.

    100_8796

The Imaginative One took gymnastics for a few years because of his lack of coordination.  This was taken on his last day of gymnastics.

    100_0399

Playing in the water.  So much fun!

    100_0435

He got to meet this giant frog while he was playing in the water.

    100_0346

Playing in the rain – One is in his diaper while the other put on his rain coat.  Such a difference in personalities.

    100_8842

The Imaginative One got to pose with this cool car.  The Newport Aquarium is located just outside of Cincinnati, Ohio.

    100_0487

The Wee One got a hair cut.  He was so mad about that.  Tears and a tantrum followed the decision to cut off his baby hair.

It looks as though he had just had some yogurt or cotton candy ice cream before the clippers were brought out.

These two are now going to be middle schoolers.  They say those are the most difficult years.  It has been so bad with the Imaginative One.  I hope it’s not that bad with the Wee One.

I hope you enjoyed walking down memory lane with me.

    Have a magical day,
    Traci

  • I’ve now listened to the third book in the Tradd Street Series.  (Family Secrets, a Mysterious Reporter, and More Ghosts and Romance, Ghosts, and Mystery)

The Strangers on Montagu Street begins with Jack dropping off his daughter, Nola, on Melanie’s doorstop.  Yeah, Jack has a teenage daughter.

Nola and Jack were constantly fighting so he thought it would better for Nola and his relationship if they did not live in the same house.  Nola had been estranged from him for all of her 13 years so they were not off to a good start.

Melanie took Nola to Jack’s parents’ antique furniture store.  While they were there, Nola took interest in a dollhouse so Jack’s mother gave it to her as a gift.  Suddenly strange things began to happen in the house.  Angry ghosts are now haunting Melanie and Nola.  Except Nola does not realize it yet because she does not realize ghosts are real.  All she knows is the dolls in the house keep moving around.

It is up to Nola, Melanie, Melanie’s mom, and Jack to find out the identity of the ghosts and what message they were trying to relay.  During the course of the book, you will meet Julia Mantego (spelling) and discover how she is related to those tortured souls.

Meanwhile there is another ghost hanging around.  This ghost is more benign than the other ghosts.  Who is this wandering lost soul?  Why is she still hanging around?  As I always say, you need to read the book to find out about this ghost.

Do Jack and Melanie eventually get together?  I’m not going to say.  You’ll have to read the book to find out.

There is a big cliff hanger at the end of the book.  Makes you want to know what is going to happen next.

I enjoyed the book.  There was a different feel to the book with more emphasis on the relationships between the characters being the primary focus of the story.  The ghost story with the dollhouse was a secondary story at different points in the book unlike the first two books.

In the beginning, I did not really enjoy Nola.  She was a moody teenage girl.  During the course of the book, she matured and became more likable.

At one point in the story, the story mentions the Circular Church’s Graveyard and this exact sign.  I had taken this photo during our visit in June.

    Ropes Course

Here is a video of the Imaginative One on the ropes course.

And the Wee One on the ropes course –

The boys were given a two hour block of time that they could be on the ropes course. During that time, they could be on any of the courses – beginner, medium, and advanced. They ended up lasting for 1 hours and 45 minutes before they decided to be done with the course.

It was well worth the money we spent. At one point, the Wee One thanked Hubby for having him do the course. He really enjoyed doing it.

Here are three collages of them on the course.

  • 6. Share a favorite quote (or group of quotes) that you enjoy and describe what they mean to you.

I’m actually going to share a hymn not a quote.

This summer I had a chance to visit many places.  One of those places was Letchworth State Park in Castile, New York.  It’s been rated as the number one state park.  The park has been described as the Grand Canyon of the East.

We stopped throughout the park so I could admire the views.  Lots of photos were taken during our time during the time we were in the park.

The lyrics from “How Great Thou Art” haunted my mind during our visit to the park. Is though the lyrics were written about Letchworth.

    19264382_10213704789237432_224434610229778846_o
This was taken at the bottom of the Helena Trail.  So beautiful and peaceful.

“How Great Thou Art” was my grandpa’s favorite hymn so anytime I hear the words I think of him.  He was a father figure of mind who was one of my heroes.  I was fortunately to have him in my life for 28.5 years.
