Today we are going to explore the 5.6 acres of Centennial Park.

Centennial Park was the original market area for Holland.  In 1876, the park was dedicated to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the United States.

Public parks were not a thing in 1876.  In fact, Centennial Park was the first public park in Michigan.

In the center of the park is a statue of the founder of Holland, Albertus C. Van Raalte.  Van Raalte came over from the Netherlands in 1847.  He settled in the area and named his town after his beloved country.
